Client: ACI Architecture
Consultant: Applied Energy Consulting
Overview:
The Norwood EMS building underwent an NECB 2020 compliance energy model to support its building permit application. The project included two main zones: admin and ambulance bay, modeled in EnergyPlus with geometry created in OpenStudio.
Key Contributions:
- Baseline and Proposed Models:
o Developed a baseline model using NECB 2020 inputs, including thermal transmittance, fenestration, and HVAC systems.
o Incorporated energy conservation measures (ECMs) such as high-performance glazing, advanced envelope insulation, and efficient DHW systems. - Energy Savings:
o Achieved a 12.98% reduction in annual energy use compared to the NECB baseline. - Innovative Features:
o Integrated high thermal performance overhead doors and slab-edge insulation.
o Optimized unit heaters and advanced lighting control systems.
Outcome:
The design ensured compliance with NECB 2020 and delivered significant energy efficiency improvements.
